Character Education is everybody's business!
The Golden Rule Foundation believes encouraging children to become socially responsible adults is a big task, so big that we believe everyone needs to participate. And we’re here to coordinate the effort.
In just seven years, our tiny band of volunteers has made huge progress.
They’ve raised more than $1.2 million for character-development education through community service. The money has supported 456 projects involving 20,670 students who have worked 146,151 volunteer hours to improve the lives of people in their communities.
Now that’s results.
It all started with the Florida Legislature requiring character education in public schools. Lawmakers thought kids were heading for trouble. Here’s why:
Student surveys coordinated by the Governor’s Office showed in part that Florida public school children were more likely to believe society overlooked undesirable behavior, to detach from their communities because they moved often, and to feel powerless.
So our founders, Rachel Hamman and Michael Wright, had an idea: Provide community-service projects for students, and the experiences will teach them positive values, help them connect with others and empower them to be catalysts for change.
And so our mission was born.
Please join us in helping kids grow!
